Joseph C. Moran, M.D, F.A.C.S, completed his undergraduate education in New York at The State University of New York at Stony Brook, before receiving his medical doctorate from Ross University School of Medicine in Roseau, Dominica. He completed his general surgery training and chief residency at St. Agnes Healthcare in Baltimore, Maryland. Following this, Dr. Moran completed a formal two year fellowship in Mastery of Complex and Minimally Invasive Surgery at St. Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Moran is board certified in general surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

His areas of interest and expertise include laparoscopic colon resection for benign and malignant diseases, laparoscopic treatment of hiatus hernias and gastroesophageal reflux disease, Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band placement (LAP-BAND), and Laparoscopic and open Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass Surgery. Dr. Moran is the first and only Board Certified, Laparoscopic fellowship trained Bariatric surgeon in Raleigh.

Janell Pool R.N.
Janell received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Des Moines Area Community College in Des Moines, Iowa and is currently the practice Clinical Nurse Specialist and Bariatric Program Coordinator. Ms. Pool brings twenty plus years of clinical expertise to Advanced Laparoscopic Associates, P.C.

Farrah Pontz, Practice Manager
Farrah received her bachelor of science degree in Business Management from N C State University in 2001.  She has been in the medical field for over 7 years and has a vast knowledge of all apects of a medical practice, including billing and insurance processes.  She is currently serving as the Practice Manager for ALA. 

Iris Rivera, Patient Services Representative
Iris has been in the medical field for over 5 years and has served in many different positions within the medical practice. She’ll be the smiling face you first see when you come to the office and she’ll be happy to assist you with any questions and the verification of your medical benefits. Iris is also fluent in English and Spanish, making it easier to communicate with our diverse patient base. She is currently serving as the Patient Services Representative for ALA.

Ann Deloatch, Bariatric Coordinator
Ann has been a part of the ALA team for almost a year. She is here to help you through the Bariatric Program workup and scheduling the specialist’s visits you may need for surgery. She’ll also submit all info to your insurance carrier to ensure this process is as easy for you as possible. She currently serves as the Bariatric Coordinator for ALA.
